Training programs
Inclusive training that responders actually use.
Developed by career first responders and nationally recognized educators, our training programs help departments communicate with and serve the LGBTQ+ community with dignity — and create workplaces where every responder belongs.

What we offer
Two distinct programs — one ready to deliver to your department today, and one built around your department's specific needs.

Signature program · Ready to deliver
LGBTQ+ Responder History and Awareness
How it started: responders wanted to know how to communicate with and treat LGBTQ+ community members with dignity. This is the answer to that question.

Recruit classes & departments
This 90-minute session was built in direct response to questions coming from within the first responder community itself. Departments and recruit classes reached out wanting practical guidance — not theory, not policy language, but real tools for real interactions. That's exactly what this training delivers.
The session uses a PowerPoint presentation and lecture format, with time built in for discussion. In practice the discussion is often where the most valuable learning happens — this is not a sit-and-absorb training.
Session covers
-
LGBTQ+ history in public safety
-
Identity, terminology, and language
-
Communication in the field
-
Treating community members with dignity
-
Supporting LGBTQ+ colleagues
-
Q&A and open discussion

Our team brings a combined 40 years of military and first responder experience alongside nationally recognized educators. That combination means we understand how first responder training actually works — the culture, the constraints, the formats that land and the ones that don't.
Whether you're updating existing lesson plans to be more inclusive, developing a new training module on a specific topic, or building a full curriculum, we can consult at whatever level your department needs.
-
Audit existing training for inclusivity gaps
-
Develop new modules from scratch
-
Update language and framing in current materials
-
Instructor coaching and train-the-trainer

Common questions
FAQs
Is the training available outside the Baltimore area?
In-person delivery is available within a 1.5-hour drive of Baltimore. For departments further afield, reach out — we're open to discussing options including virtual delivery or travel for larger engagements.
How much does a training session cost?
Reach out directly and we'll discuss options based on your department's size, needs, and budget. As a nonprofit, we work to make training accessible.
Can the LGBTQ+ History and Awareness session be customized for our department?
Yes. While the core 90-minute session has a set structure, we can discuss tailoring examples, discussion prompts, and supplementary materials to fit your specific context — fire, EMS, law enforcement, or mixed audiences.
What format does the training use?
The signature session uses a PowerPoint presentation and lecture format, with built-in time for discussion. Discussion has consistently been where the most valuable exchange happens in past sessions.
Can you help us update existing lesson plans rather than deliver a new training?
Absolutely — that's exactly what the consultation offering is for. Whether you need a full curriculum review or help updating specific language in existing materials, we can scope a project that fits.
